Ahead of the January sales, research reveals how accessibility failures drive users away
Dec 04 2025
New research highlights how quickly users leave when accessibility isn’t in place, especially during peak demand.
A new article from IT Brief UK, Website accessibility barriers drive UK shoppers to abandon sales, highlights how much revenue retailers risk losing during major sales events when their sites are not accessible, and with the January sales fast approaching, the findings should not be ignored.
Even though the research focuses on retail behavior, the message applies to every organization: when users encounter barriers, they leave. The study shows that three-quarters of disabled shoppers were unable to finish a purchase during major sales events because the website simply didn’t work for them. And over half of all UK consumers say they would abandon an online task entirely if they hit similar issues.
Barriers such as small text, unclear navigation and slow-loading pages are enough to stop people in their tracks – whether they’re trying to buy, book, apply, or access information.
As Amit Borsok, CEO and Founder of AccessiWay, notes, “Many businesses don’t realise this is happening because customers simply move to a competitor without reporting the problem.”
Accessibility is not only a legal requirement, it's also now a basic expectation for anyone engaging with digital services.
